Abstract

1389838 Radio-active absorption analysis UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 8 Sept 1972 [10 Sept 1971] 42264/71 Heading G1A To analyse a material 4 7-radiation and neutrons from a source I pass therethrough and impinge upon a detector arrangement 5, 6 to provide two signals 7, 8 indicative respectively of the intensity of the γ and neutron radiation that has passed through the material. The source 1 is surrounded by a moderator 2. A photo-multiplier 5 having a lithium iodide scintillator provides an output to a pulse height analyser 6 which produces the two signals. The apparatus may be used to investigate the water content of sand. Alternatively the sample material may be a charge on a conveyer.
