Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture a slab for a low carbon steel sheet contg. 0.03W0.10% of C by continuous casting, by subjecting converter molten steel of higher C content then the desired C grade to decarburization and deoxidation with C in the molten steel and Al, Ti, etc. added by vacuum degassing.
CONSTITUTION: In manufacture of molten steel for a low carbon steel sheet contg. 0.03W0.10% of C in a converter, molten steel is discharged when the C content is more than 0.05% at the time of blowing down. This molten steel is supplied to a vacuum degassing unit and degassed in a relatively low vacuum range of 300W10mmHg. At this time, O reacts with C in the steel, forming CO. Thus, decarburization and deoxidation are carried out, and the C content is adjusted to 0.03W 0.10%. Next, Al and Ti are added to further deoxidize the steel so that the O content is limited to below 200 ppm even if the steel absorbs O from air to be contacted up to pouring and casting in a continous casting mold. The Al and Ti are added satisfying Al<0.01% and Ti; 0.005W0.01%. Thereafter, continuous casting is carried out to obtain a superior slab with little pinholes and little inclusions of deoxidation product without isolating the external atmosphere on the mold.
