Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase treatment efficiency by increasing the speed of movement of particles adsorbed to a rotary disk of a magnetic separator.
CONSTITUTION: Liquid being treated 11 flows from inlet 2 into tank 1. During the time when it flows inside tank 1 toward outlet 3, magnetic particles are adsorbed to the outer surface of non-magnetic hollow disk 4 due to the magnetic field generated by inner disk 5. Adsorbed magnetic particles move on disk 4 in its rotational direction 13 and are transported on the surface of water. These magnetic particles are separated from disk 4 by a scraper, not shown, provided in close contact with disk 4. At this time, when the rotational speed of disk 5 is made higher than that of disk 4, magnetic particles on disk 4 move on disk 4 in the direction of arrow 13 due to the magnetic induction caused by rotation 14 of disk 5. By this, the speed of movement of the magnetic particles on disk 4 can be made higher than the speed of movement caused by the rotation of disk 4, and thereby treatment efficiency can be increased.
