Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a discharge lamp lighting circuit, in which an auxiliary starting electrode is disposed adjacently of a main electrode, and a double voltage is impressed between a pair of electrodes to minimize the energy necessary for causing transfer from auxiliary discharge to main discharge, whereby it is enabled to lower the starting voltage. CONSTITUTION:When commercial AC power source 1 is connected, a voltage is impressed between a pair of main electrodes 3a and 3b of light emitting tube 3 via stabilizing resistance 2, and a voltage is impressed also to a first and a second voltage doubling circuits A, B. When a positive voltage is developed at terminal 1b, capacitors 5, 11 are charged to the polarity as shown in the drawing. On the other hand, when a positive voltage is developed at terminal 1a, a voltage charged in capacitor 5 and power source voltage are impressed in series to capacitor 7, so that voltage of capacitor 7 is doubled. The doubled voltage is impressed between auxiliary electrode 4b and main electrode 3b via starting resistance 9, and at the same time, the voltage of capacitor 11 plus power source voltage is impressed between main electrode 3a and auxiliary electrode 4a via stabilizing resistance 2 and starting resistance 12.
