Abstract

PURPOSE: To accelerate the gellation of coating liquid film and prevent the uneven coating, in the preparation of photographic film, photographic paper, etc., by cooling a continuously running long web by a cooling means just before the application of photographic emulsion.
CONSTITUTION: A web 2 to be coated is passed through a plurality of hollow cooling rolls 4A-E each having a rotary joint at its end 5A-E, and both surfaces of the web are cooled by the rolls. Photographic emulsion extruded from an extruder- type simultaneous multi-layer coating hopper 3 is applied to the web by a coating roller 1. The coated web is transferred to a set of meandering transport rolls 10A-E by which the non-coated side of the web is kept under reduced pressure, and cool air flow is applied to the coated side of the web. The web is finally introduced into a setting zone 9, and cooled by the convection of the cooled air, and the gellation is accelerated.
