Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent commutation failure, by adding a first order time lag circuit for raising the current reference value with a predetermined time constant and a timer device for increasing the frequency reference value during said raising.
CONSTITUTION: When an AC motor is started by a self-commutated inverter, a first order time lag circuit 61 is added to the command-timer 46 lowering the current reference for a predetermined time interval from the starting, so as to raise the current reference, which is to be lowered, with a predetermined time constant, and further, a timer 62 is added to the frequency reference setter 51 for increasing the frequency reference value from that at the starting time while the current reference value is raised. Thus, commutation period is reduced to decrease the ratio of the main circuit current produced during the preceding commutation so that the time interval in which a reverse voltage is applied on the thyristor can be made longer and hence commutation failure can be prevented.
