Abstract
PURPOSE: To arbitrarily set the limiting MW for removing elutes and the demarcation MW for separation by changing the flow rate alone of a raw soln. or an extracted soln. using the same device and membrane to control the ratio of the compsn. of the extracted soln.
CONSTITUTION: Using a semipermeable mebrance with an area of 0.8 m2, a raw soln. is let to flow at a rate of 100, 200, 300 and 400 cc/min, and an extracted soln. is let to flow at a rate of above 10 times as high as the above rate to carry out dialysis. The amts. of Cl-, creatinine and vitamin B12 dialyzed are plotted on the theoretical curve of the diagram. As a result, permeability of the membrance to each solute is 5.8, 4.0 and 0.6 (× 10-4 cm/sec), and it is shown that the measured points follow nomogram based on theoretical handling. Assuming the amt. of creanitine permeated to be 1, the diagram shows a change in relative ratio of chlorine and vitamin B12 due to a change in flow rate.
