Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare isotropic prepreg having excellent strength and modulus, by arranging inorganic fibers or organic fibers in parallel, impregnating the fiber bundle with a thermosetting resin, spirally coiling the bundle, and finally evaporating the solvent to dryness.
CONSTITUTION: A uniform parallel bundle of inorganic and/or organic filaments is impregnated with a thermosetting resin by squeezing process, contact process, dipping squeezing process, dipping process, etc. The impregnated fiber bundle is fed to the surface of a rotating disc having a rotational speed proportional to the feeding speed of the bundle, and wound to a coil having desired diameter. The solvent of the thermosetting resin is evaporated or dried to obtain a semi-cured prepreg coil. The inorganic fiber is, e.g. glass fiber, carbon fiber, boron fiber, metal fiber, etc.
