Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve the increase in the strength of the disc without causing the breakdown of magnetic heads by baking and hardening coating film formed of magnetic oxide and thermosetting redin with an infrared ray heater of long wavelengths.
CONSTITUTION: A thermosetting resin such as of acrylic or epoxy base is put together with a magnetic oxide such as gamma-iron oxide or the like into a coating and the mixture is thinly and evenly coated on a substrate of aluminum disc by spin coating or the like, whereby the coating film of the magnetic layer is formed. Thereafter, the coating film is subjected to orientation treatment and further the coating film is heated with an infrared ray heater of long wavelength above, e.g., 50μm, whereby it is baked and heat treated. This increases the strength of the coating film of the magnetic disc, and yet the breakdown of magnetic heads may be prevented because hard additives such as alumina, silica, etc. are not included.
