Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate unnecssary cutting and thereby increasing cutting efficiency, by measuring in advance the thicknesses of parts to be cut, determining right or wrong cuttings, and by operating only right cuttings.
CONSTITUTION: Steel pipe 1 being transported on a transport table is stopped at a fixed position by stopper 2a. The outer surface of steel pipe 1 is then grasped by check mechanism 3. After this, steel pipe 1 is supported by supporter roll unit 4 in such a manner that it can rotate freely. Then, the motor in check mechanism is driven, and thereby steel pipe 1 is rotated. At this time, detection unit 50 of thickness meter 5 is brought into contact with the steel pipe surface, and thereby the thickness of the steel pipe covering the entire surface is measured. When the results of detection by detector unit 50 are within the tolerance, cutting is operated by cutter 6. When they are not within the tolerance, steel pipe is sent to the next stoper 2 and a similar operation is performed.
