Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare riboflavin useful as a growth rate accelerator for animal and a remedy for commissural cheilitis, by culturing riboflavin-producing yeast belonging to Hansenula genus in a medium containing methanol as main carbon source.
CONSTITUTION: Riboflavin-producing yeast belonging to Hansenula genus, e.g. Hansenula polymorpha I-3 (FERM-P No.3929), Hansenula philodendra CBS-6075, etc., is inoculated in a medium containing ≤6%, pref. ≤3%, esp. ≤1% of methanol as main carbon source, and cultured at pH 2-7.5, pref. 3-7, and 20-49°C, under aerobic conditions. The culturing temp, is pref. 34-40°C for Hansenula polymorpha, and 28-34°C for Hansenula philodendra.
