Abstract

PURPOSE: To carry out mass carburizing of high accuracy and enhance the appearance of small-sized parts, etc. to be carburized, by turning the parts and a carburizing agent in a closed type carburizing vessel together with the vessel to allow the agent to act uniformly.
CONSTITUTION: Finely divided solid carburizing agent 4 and products 3 to be carburized are charged into closed type carburizing vessel 2. Vessel 2 is then hermetically sealed and stored in the effective soaking zone of heating furnace 1. Rotary shaft 5 is set to support mechanism 7, and vessel 2 is turned continuously or intermittently during carburizing by means of turning mechanism 6. Thus, unevenness in carburizing depth is minimized, resulting in improved appearance. This carburizing method is applicable to small-sized parts such as gears, screws, shafts and fittings made of low carbon steel, low alloy case hardening steel, etc.
