Abstract

PURPOSE: A reduced-discoloration thickener composed of fiberglass with a specific diameter that gives the same thickening and thixotropic properties as finely powdery silica gives to a substance to be thickened by the small-amount addition.
CONSTITUTION: Fiberglass of less than 10, preferably less than 1.5 microns in diameter and 5W20 mm in length is added to a substance to be thickened in an amount of less than 1, preferably less than 0.3 wt% on the basis of the substance to be thickened and dispersed with blades stirred so as to make the length of fiberglass less than 100 microns.
EFFECT: Said thickener increases the viscosity and thixotropic property of plastisols, paints and liquid polyesters.
