Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect defect in rice grains by splitting both the reflected light and transmitted light into the light containing red light component and the light without containing red light component. CONSTITUTION:Reflected light signal RR containing red light component and transmitted light signal TR containing red light component are inputted into a first comparator 20, in which the ratio RR/TR of the both signals RR and TR is calculated, and the result is outputted as a first signal A. This first signal A is inputted into a first subtracter 22 together with a first refernce signal B from a first setting device 21, and the subtraction A-B is calculated. When the result of calculation is A-B>0, a defect rice (shirata-mai) command signal C is outputted.
