Abstract
PURPOSE: To permit accurate measurement of the rate of discharge by eliminating error due to scattering of injected fuel in air, error due to attachment of fuel to the cylinder wall and error due to back pressure from fuel.
CONSTITUTION: The device comprises an injection chamber 5 including a chamber section 5a having an injection opening 5c of an injection nozzle 4 connected to a fuel injection pump 1 and liquid surface references A and B provided abobe the injection opening 5 and a measuring section 5b provided above the section 5a and having a reference line C, a measuring cylinder 6 communicating with the injection chamber 5 at a position below the injection opening 5a and having an inner piston 7, a unit for displaying the movement of the piston 7 and a control section 14 for controlling the number of times of and period of injection from the pump 1. The rate of discharge from the pump 1 is measured in terms of the extent of movement of the piston 7 representing the change of the quantity of fuel between instants before and after the injection from the nozzle 4.
