Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent temperature rise of liquid helium with centrifugal forces by arranging heat conduction mechanism cooled by liquid helium and thermally conductive couplers in radially inner portions of a rotor.
CONSTITUTION: Normal temperature and low temperature damper shields 4 and 3 are provided on the outer side of a superconductive field coil 1, and heat exchanger sections 5 are provided on the opposite sides of the coil 1. In the neighborhood of the axis, a liquid helium container 10 and couplers 11 thermally coupling flanges 12 of the container 10 and a coil cover 9 made of a metal of high thermal conductivity in close contact with the outer surface of the field coil 1 are provided. The couplers 11 serve as heat transfer mechanism radially extending from the outer periphery of the flanges of the liquid helium container 10, penetrating the mounting section 14 of a coil mounting shaft 2 and being held in close contact with the underside of the side wall portion 13 of the coil cover 9. With this arrangement, with which the superconduction field coil 1 is indirectly cooled by the couplers 11, the liquid container 10 can be arranged near the center of the shaft, so that it is possible to reduce the diameter of the free liquid surface oscillating section. Thus, it is possible to reduce instable vibrations and also permit temperature rise of liquid helium to be reduced with pressure increase.
