Abstract

PURPOSE: To modify the surface of a polymer in a short step at low cost, by irradiating a polymer immersed in a photo-polymerizable composition with actinic radiation, thereby grafting the polymer with a radically polymerizable compound contacting therewith.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of a polymer is grafted with a radically polymerizable compound by irradiating the polymer immersed in a photo-polymerizable composition containing said polymerizable compound, with actinic radiation perpendicularly or nearly perpendicularly to the surface. The radically polymerizable compound is e.g. (meth)acrylamide, N-methylol acrylamide, etc., and the wave length of the actinic rediation is pref. 250W700 nm. The light source is, e.g. mercury lamp, fluorescent lamp, xenon lamp, etc.
