Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a durable coating film having excellent appearence on a synthetic polymer substrate, without deteriorating the substrate, by applying a coating composition onto the surface modified by the photo-grafting reaction with a polar monomer.
CONSTITUTION: Surface of a synthetic polymer substrate is modified by irradiating the substrate in a photo-polymerizable composition containing a radically polymerizable compound with actinic radiation, thereby grafting the radically polymerizable compound onto the substrate. The modified surface is coated with a coating composition. The radically polymerizable compound is, e.g. (meth)acrylamide, N-methylol acrylamide, N-vinyl caprolactam, etc. The wave length of the actinic radiation is pref. 250W700 nm, and its source is, e.g. mercury lamp, fluorescent lamp, metal halide lamp, xenon lamp, tungsten lamp, etc.
