Abstract
PURPOSE:To recover electrolytically Zn from an acid solution with high current efficiency by adjusting the concentration of acid in acid solution containing Zn and Fe and also by adjusting the Fe/Zn concentration ratio. CONSTITUTION:The acid solution 1 containing Zn and Fe, generated from the metallic Zn plating factory for steels, is snet to a pH regulating process to regulate it to 0 to 3, and then divalent Fe is converted into trivalent Fe by the addition of an oxidizing agent, e.g., hydrogen peroxide, etc.. The acid solution thus regulated is introduced into the chelate resin tower 4 to contact it with a chelate ion exchagne resin, represented by the formula I, supported by activated carbon, slilica gel, etc., in order to adjust the Fe/Zn concentration ratio to less than 0.025. The solution 6 is then put into the electrolytic bath 7 to electrolyse it between an anode of Pb, etc., and a cathode of Fe, Al, etc., at 20 to 50 deg.C and at a current density of 0.5 to 10 A/dm<2>. The Zn present in liquor is deposited on the cathode and separated from Fe for recovery. In this case, the electrolytic bath 7 is partitioned by the anion exchange resin membrane 8 to control the concnetration of free acid in electrolyte for depositing Zn with high current eifficiency.
