Abstract
PURPOSE: To efficiently produce hydrocyanic acid by subjecting methanol to gaseous plase catalytic ammoxidation in the presence of a catalyst with high activity and superior selectivity obtd. by supporting a compound oxid of W and Mo on silica.
CONSTITUTION: A compound oxide of the formula having the atomic ratio of W/ (W+Mo) esp. 0.5W0.8 is supported on silica to prepare a catalyst. The cilica content of the catalyst is 20W98, esp. 30W95 wt%. The catalyst is prepared by a usaula method as follows; Mo or its cpd. and W or its cpd. are dissolved or suspended in a soln. and after adding silica, the mixt. is dried, calcined, and molded. A fixed or moving bed of the catalyst is held pref. at 350W500°C, and CH3OH, NH3 and O2 or an O2-contg. gas are brought into contact with the catalyst for 0.2W 20 sec together with steam or an inert gas if desired to produce hydrocyanic acid. The catalyst has superior wear resistance and sublimes little Mo.
