Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain stable, uniform, ion exchange zeolite with superior ion exchange efficiency by bringing a thin layer of crystalline zeolite cake into contact with a flowing soln. of salts contg. cations to be exchanged.
CONSTITUTION: A dispersion of zeloite crystals is produced with a usual continuous type filter, filtered, and optionally washed. Thus, a thin layer of zeolite cake is uniformly formed on a moving bed, and an aq. soln. of various salts to be ion exchanged is continuously supplied and passed through the layer while in contact with the layer to carry out ion exchange. The thickness of the layer is pref. about 5W20 mm. The zeolite is natural or synthetic crystalline zeolite aluminosilicate pref. of about 0.5W4 μ diameter. The cations of the salts may be K+, Co2+, Ca2+, Ba2+, etc.
