Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a non-tacky granular acrylic elastomer, by radical copolymerization of an acrylic ester with comonomers in the presence of an alkali metal salt of an aliphatic carboxylic acid and an alkaline earth metal compound in an aqueous medium.
CONSTITUTION: An acrylic ester and comonomers are radically copolymerized in the presence of (a) a dispersing agent and (b) 0.5W10wt.% based on the total monomer weight of a metal salt of a 7W20C aliphatic carboxylic acid, which is added during or after the copolymerization, and (c) an equivalent amount or a little excess of the alkali metal salt of an alkali earth metal compound, which is subsequently added to the polymerization system, in an aqueous medium. Sodium or potassium salt of caproic, palmitic acids, etc. may be cited as the alkali metal salt. Calcium chloride, barium hydroxide, etc. may be cited as the alkaline earth metal compound.
