Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the exposure of a worker to radioactive rays thereby to enhance the working safety by shielding the planar shield, which can be easily brought into and out of an inside inspecting and repairing device, and a shield having a C- shaped cross-section from the radioactive rays from a core spray piping.
CONSTITUTION: Above the outer circumference of a bottomed cylindrical lower shield 20 above a shroud 1 surrounding a core, a shield 42, which has a C-shaped cross-section having an inner size larger than the OD of a core spray piping 3, is mounted to face the piping 3 such that its open side is directed to face the inner wall of the nuclear reactor pressure container. There is mounted below the outer circumference of the lower shield 20a shield 41 which is composed of a sector member having an outer circumferential shape fitted in the inner wall of the container 6, An operating rod 43 is made to extend through the clearance between the shields 41 and 42 such that these shields 41 and 42 are made radially movable. During the works, therefore, it is sufficient to merely open the inner and outer doors 49 and 50 of the shield 20 to their minimum openings thereby to reduce the exposure to the radioactive rays.
