Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the exposure to radioactive rays upon inspection of a welded seam thereby improve the working safety and efficiency by mounting multiple layers of rotary shielding members having a space in the stationary shielding member of a reactor container.
CONSTITUTION: A number of stationary shielding members 7 are arranged in the opening 5 of a concrete shielding member 4 enclosing a nuclear reactor pressure container 1 such that they are oriented in the axial direction of the piping 3 of a nozzle 2. Multiple layers of rotary shielding members 8 are arranged between the stationary shielding members 7 and about the piping 3. The shielding members 8 are arranged such that their spaces are not overlapped during the normal operation of the reactor but overlapped during inspection of the welded seam of the nozzle 2 of the container 1. Thus, it is possible to inspect with the minimum space and to improve the working safety and efficiency while reducing the exposure to the radioactive rays.
