Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture a highly foamed article having excellent surface smoothness and heat resistance, in high efficiency, by impregnating a UV-cross-linked ionic copolymer with an evaporating-type foaming agent which is gaseous at room temperature, and heating the impregnated resin.
CONSTITUTION: 100 Parts by weight of an ionic copolymer obtained by the reaction of a copolymer of ethylene and an α, β-ethylenic unsaturated mono- or di-carboxylic acid, with a water-soluble ionic metal compound wherein the metal is selected from I-III, IVa ana VIII groups of periodic talbe and 1-3 valent, is incorporated with 3-30 parts by weight of a photosensitizing compound such as benzophenone, triallylcyanurate, etc.; and the resin composition is crosslinked by irradiating with UV- lighr of 1000-4000A wave length. The crosslinked polymer is impregnated with an evaporation-type foaming agent which is gaseous at room temperature, such as butane, dichloromonofluoromethane, etc., at high temperature and pressure, and foamed by heating above the softening temperature of the ionic copolymer.
