Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:Imidazole derivatives of formula I: (R is lower alkyl, aralkyl, or 1-adamantyl group).
EXAMPLE: N'-n-propyl-5-hydroxy-4-imidazolecarboxamide.
USE: Anticarcinogens having low toxicity.
PROCESS: Nα-benzyloxy carbonyl-α-alkoxycarbonyl-glycine derivatives of formula II: (R1 is lower alkyl; R2 is benzyl, substituted benzyl) are condensed with primary amines of formula R-NH2 under dehydration to give Nα-benzyl-oxycarbonyl-α- alkoxycarbonylglycine alkyl amide derivatives of formula III, which are reacted with ammonia in a lower alcohol to form Nα-benzyloxycarbonyl-α-carbamoyl-glycine alkyl amide derivatives of foumula IV. The compounds thus obtained ore then catalytically reduced to give reaction products, which are reacted with orthoformates in the presence of an acid catalyst, thus forming the objective compounds
