Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove dusts to a magnetic tape and recording head and prevent damage on magnetic tape effectively by impregnating with perfluoroalkyl polyether to the ribbon of an auto-cleaner, a cleaning element for magnetic tape. CONSTITUTION:In a magnetic tape device is assembled an auto-cleaner which is a cleaning element to remove dusts and clean deposited on magnetic tape 2 or magnetic head 1. A cleaning tape 4 thereof is impregnated with perfluoroalkyl polyether, and is not in contact with the magnetic head 1 and magnetic tape 2 while recording or playing back. When the tape 2 runs without performing recording or playback, the ribbon tape 4 of the auto-cleaner is inserted between the magnetic head 1 and magnetic tape 2 by means of air spring or the like. Due to pressing force of magnetic head 2 toward the head 1, frictional force is built between the ribbon 4 and tape 2, and by this frictional force, dusts on the magnetic tape are removed and cleaned, at the same time and magnetic head are cleaned.
