Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the detecting sensitivity of a gas detecting element and to reduce the dispersion of the performances among the elements by producing the elements mainly of particles of stannic oxides which are prepared by thermally decomposing the vapor of organic tin compounds.
CONSTITUTION: The vapor, which is prepared by heating and vaporizing an organic tin compound such as (CH3) SnCl2 in a carburetor, is carried on carier gases such as air or oxygen and introduced into a thermally decomposing furnace so that it may be thermally decomposed at a preset temperature. The fine particles of SnO2 obtained are introduced into water and dispersed, and resultant aqueous dispersion is centrifugally separated to trap the fine particles of SnO2. These particles are then molded by means of press and sintered according to a normal method, thus producing a gas detecting element. The aforementioned particles have a diameter of about 0.3 to 0.5 microns within a narrow range so that the resultant detecting element can have high detecting sensitivity and less despersion in performances among the elements.
