Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a phenolic resin useful for laminated sheets and having excellent heat resistance, solvent resistance, punchability, etc., by thermally reacting an epoxidized 1,2-polybutadiene with a phenolic compound and formaldehyde.
CONSTITUTION: A novolak or resol-type phenolic resin for lamination is prepared by reacting a 1,2-polybutadiene having partially epoxidized pendant double bonds, with a mono- or divalent phenolic compound and formaldehyde. Preferably the polybutadiene has a molecular weight of 500W2,000, and 10W50 % of the pendant double bond of the polybutadiene is epoxidized
