Abstract

PURPOSE:To continuously refine molten iron only in a converter by discharging the greater part of the molten iron smelted in the converter and charging a C source and iron oxide into the remaining iron to refine it. CONSTITUTION:Part of molten iron smelted in a converter is left. For example, in case of a 25t converter, 200t of molten iron is discharged and 50t is left. Next a C source such as coke or coal and iron oxide (iron ore) are charged into the remaining iron to refine it by otygen blowing. By repeating the above process, molten iron is continuously manufactured and it becomes unnecessary to receive hot cast iron from a blast furnace. That is, continuous refining becomes possible which makes unnecessary the furnace requiring considerable construction cost.
