Abstract
PURPOSE: to eliminate developing of unnecessary portions, reduce consumption of developer and prevent the contamination of a corona discharger for transfer by providing a destaticizer near the charger for photoreceptor and removing the charging portions which become unnecessary.
CONSTITUTION: A photoreceptor drum 2 is destaticized of excess charged portions by a destaticizer 10 immediately after having been charged with a charger 1. A changeover device cooperating to a changeover lever or the like for feed paper sizes is provided to apply the changeover signal for input to the destaticizer 10. When the original is of a large size, no input signal is sent to the destaticizer 10 and the destaticizer does not actuate. When the changeover lever is changed over to the original of a small size, the input signal is sent to actuate the destaticizer 10. The sctuation of the destaticizer 10 causes the photoreceptor to be charged to a width necessary for copying, thus the photoreceptor which does not produce any surplus charging portion does not nesessitate production of unnecessary developed portions at the time of exposure and development, hence the consumption of toner becomes less and the efficiency becomes higher
