Abstract

PURPOSE: To accurately obtain the corrosion rate by analyzing the fluctuations in potential before and after supply of a constant current with the use of a calculation controller so as to obtain the correct polarizing value.
CONSTITUTION: A cell 1, in which a corrosive system to be measured is accommodated, has a sample metal strip 2, a reference electrode 3 and a opposite electrode 4 in or in the vicinity of a corrosive liquid. The metal strip 2 and the opposite electrode are connected with the output terminal of a constant current power source 5, and the metal strip 2 and the electrode 3 are connected with the input terminal of a potential measuring device 6. The output of the power source 5 is controlled by a calculation controller 7 so that the output of the potential measuring device 6 is fed to the controller 7. And, the influence of the liquid resistance is eliminated from the difference in the rate in potential change, and the portion, where the time change of the potential can be judged to be linear, is detected. By extrapolating that portion, the influence of the change of second order of the surface condition on the metal is elminated to obtain the correct polarized value, so that the desired correct corrosion rate can be deduced
