Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the accuracy of a polarization curve measurement by making up for the drop in the voltage due to the resistance of the solution by means of a potential correction apparatus for making up for the polarization potential.
CONSTITUTION: The sample metal piece 1, the opposite pole 3, and the reference electrode 2 are arranged in the corrosion solution. The constant potential polarization device 4 gives a constant potential to the sample 1 through the opposite pole 3 while measuring the polarization. The potential correction device 4 connected to the polarization device 4 determines the reference quantity of electricity from the current flowing through the sample 1 due to the constant potential from the polarization device 4 and the liquid resistance prior to initiation of polarization characteristics. Then, with said reference quantity of electricity, outputted is the correction voltage for making up for the drop in the polarization voltage caused by the flow of current through the sample 1 for a fixed time. The output allows the potential scanning device 6 to compensate for the set potential. Thus, automatic correction of the polarization potential enables highly accurate measurement of the polarization curve.
