Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove O2 contained in a gas at a high removing ratio and at a low cost, by bringing the gas, e.g., air, which is inert to hydrazines, into contact with water or lower alcohol contg. dissolved hydrazines, quinones, or hydroxylated quinones with specific half-wave potential.
CONSTITUTION: A gas, e.g., air or CH4, which is inert to hydrazines, is made to contact with the following soln. to remove O2. I.e., the soln. consists of 100 wt. parts hydrazines (converted to hydrazine), 0.01W100 parts quinones with the following characteristics (e.g., 2,5-dimethyl-1,4-benzoquinone), and, if necessary, a soln. of alkali in water or C1W5 lower alcohol. For the quinone is used a quinone which has primary half wave potential not larger than-650 mV to the saturated calomel electrode at 25°C when 0.1 N-tetra ethylammonium perchlorate is used as a indicator electrolyte in acetonitrile solvent
