Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a device for engaging a brake at vehicle stopping time and releasing it at the vehicle starting time by utilizing a piezoelectric element in which the polarity of its electromotive force generally depends upon the direction of force applied thereto.
CONSTITUTION: In a device for braking wheels by compressing work oil in a cylinder 2 to operate an actuator 4 upon depression of a brake pedal 1 and thereby extending a piston 5 to expand brake shoes 6 so as to urge brake lining 7 on a brake drum 8, a control circuit is constructed by providing a piezo-electric element P for inverting its polarity of electromotive force thereof in response to the pressure applied to the lining 7, a comparator COM connected at both input terminals thereof to both electrode terminals a, b of the element P for controlling the actuator 4 in response to the electric output of the element P, and a solenoid valve EB inserted into a brake oil passage
