Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize early repair of rolls by measuring the strain between rolls assembled in rolling mills during shutdown of operation by means of a strain gauge and obtaining the contact pressure distribution between rolls. CONSTITUTION:A strain gauge 2 is fitted to a pressure measuring element 1 and is embedded in a metal beam 3 having the same elastic coefficient as the element 1 substantially. The thickness of the pressure measuring element 1 being held in between rolls is approximately equal to the thickness of the metal beam 3. Thus constituted metal beam 3 is inserted between strengthening roll 8 and work roll 9 of 4-fold rolling mill in a way that the pressure measuring element 1 may contact with the roll surface, and a load is applied evenly on rolls. As a result, a strain is applied to the element 1, which is recorded in a strain meter 6 through a lead wire 4. Thus, contact distribution of high measuring precision may be obtained.
