Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare allyl chloride or methallyl chloride in a selectivity of above 95% at a low temperature, by the liquid-phase chlorination of an olefin using a specific chloride as a source of chlorine.
CONSTITUTION: Allyl chloride or methallyl chloride is prepared by introducing an olefin comprising propylene, isobutyline or their mixture into a solvent containing a dispersed chloride selected from tellurium and selenium chlorides or their mixture, followed by the liquid-phase chlorination at 100-300°C and at ordinary pressure to 50kg/cm2G. Chlorides of variable valence metals such as CuCl2 may coexist. Furthemore, tellurium chloride, etc. which has been converted to a lower valent chloride or a metal, is chlorinated by introducing Cl2 into the solvent together with the olefin, converted to a higher valent chloride and regenerated as a chlorinating agnet.
EFFECT: On account of a low temperature liquid-phase reaction, sublimation of tellurium chloride scarcely occurs, and therefore continuous running can be carried out stably.
USE: Raw material of epichlorohydrin
