CONSTITUTION: In the preparation of hexachloroethane by chlorinating tetrachloroethylene, the chlorination reaction is carried out above 50W60°C, adding 0.001W 1.0 wt.% (preferably 0.01W0.1 wt.%), based on the chlorination solvent, of azobisnitriles of formula (R1WR4 are alkyl or cycloalkyl; pref. azobisisobutyro- nitrile ) as a catalyst.
