Abstract
PURPOSE: A gas containing vinyl chloride monomer and high-boiling components is passed through an activated carbon adsorbing completely the high-boiling component and another activated carbon that has larger cumulative pore volume and adsorbs efficiently vinyl chloride monomer, thereby adsorbing the monomer and re covering it in high efficiency.
CONSTITUTION: A gas containing vinyl chloride monomer and other components boiling higher temperatures than the boiling point of the monomer, such as ethylene dichloride and acrylonitrile is led into first adsorption column 1 that is packed with an activated carbon with samller cumulative pore volume (cc/g) per unit amount than that of another activated carbon packed in the second adsorption column 3 and the high-boiling component is adsorption behere. Then the monomers ebsorbed in the selond adsorption column 3. When the adsorption to first column 1 is saturated, the gas flow is switched to the first adsorption column 2 and the second adsorption column 4 and the elimination treatment of the adsorption columns 1 and 3 is conducted, simultaneously the activated carbons are regenerated. The high-boiling components from adsorption columns 1 and 2 are separated from water in drain separator 7 and vinyl chloride monomer from adsorption columns 3 and 4 is separated from condensed water in drain separator 8
