Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the spillage of dirt through compression thereof with a push down of a compressed plate having an opening corresponding to the suction port provided at an upper portion of the collecting case of the vacuum cleaner while the plate is turned to close the suction port.

CONSTITUTION: In a vacuum cleaner, a dirt collecting case 8 is placed within a negative pressure chamber and surrounded with a filter 10. A compression plate 12 having a shaft with a coil spring and a control section 25 at the upper portion is provided in the case. With the plate 12 raised, the opening 14 corresponds the suction port of a dirt sucking pipe 6 thereby allowing the dirt to be sucked into the case 8 freely. When the dirt is accumulated in the case to an proper extent, the control section 25 is pushed to compress the dirt. At the same time, the coil spring 20 causes the plate 12 to turn counterclockwise to close the suction port displacing the opening 14. In this manner, the dirt is compressed throughout the dirt collecting chamber 11. Upon release of a hand from the control section, the compression plate 12 is returned upward by a force of the spring 20 while turned clockwise to align the opening 14 with the suction port 7
