Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a multipolar electrode in which voltage drop is kept as small as possible, by connecting the anode and the cathode by electric welding through electroconductive material in such a manner that the ratio of the weld area to the front surface area of the electrode is in the range of prescribed ratio. CONSTITUTION:In a unit electrolytic cell equipped with multipolar electrodes are arranged an anode 4 and a cathode 5 through a unit cell frame 1 and a partition wall 2, and in the anodic chamber is installed a lining 3 made of corrosion-resistant metal, e.g., Ti etc. The anode 4 is fastened to the lining plate 3 by means of electroconductive ribs 6, and the plate 3 is made to contact with the partition wall 2 through clad plates. The catahode 5 is fastened to the partition wall 2 through electroconductive ribs 7. These parts are connected by electric welding in such a manner that the smallest weld area of the connection is in the range of 0.2-3%, pref. 0.35- 1.5%, or more pref. 0.35-1.0% of oppositing surface areas of the electrodes 4, 5. Thereby, the voltage drop in a unit electrode, hence in the multipolar electrode can be kept as small as possible.
