Abstract

PURPOSE: A low-cost direct current power source for arc welding uses a single- phase alternating current in which rectified direct current output terminals are connected to a series connection of a capacitor and a reactor having characteristic of decreasing impedance with increased coil current. The device provides stabilized arc in a wide range of welding current.
CONSTITUTION: In an are welding DC power source using consumable electrode, a first input is converted into a single-phase AC using a single-phase tap transformer 1. To this all-wave rectifying output terminals is connected in parallel a capacitor 6, to which capacitor is connected in series a single-coiled closed-magnetic type reactor 10 capable of increasing or decreasing its impedance in responce to increased or decreased load impedance. This means provides, in all outut welding-current ranging from 80 to 300A, a voltage ripple percentage uniformalzed below 33%, resulting in welding workability and arc stabilization equal to those using a three- phase AC input power source.
