Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a stable electrostatic latent images at all times and obtain a high quality hard copy at high speed by providing the head which measures the electric potential and faces the surface of a photoreceptor at the outside of a printing region within the light beam sacnning region.
CONSTITUTION: Electrostatic latent image of high contrast is formed by the process which comprises projecting the laser beam which rediates from laser oscillator 1-1 onto a rotating mirror which rotates at constant speed, scanning photoreceptor 1-14 with the laser beam thus swept horizontally, forming a pattern due to the difference of a surface potential on the surface of an insulating layer to be electrically charged, and thereafter exposing it to light. Electrode 1-21 which measures the electrostatic potential facing the surface of the photoreceptor 1-14 is disposed at the outside of printing region within the laser beam scanning region to provide the portion sconned and exposed by the laser beam and the dark portion, and respective electrostatic potential of each portion is measured. Besides, beam detector 2-1 consisting of photo-electric conversion element is provided to detect the start position of scanning for the purpose of determining its start. Thus, the stable and good image can be obtained.
