Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an incandescent lamp, having bulk getters and an inert gas of a particular composition sealed therein, whereby it is enabled to heat the bulk getter to a high temperauture if the lamp or bulb is of a low output, and to make the bulk getters function as performance getters.
CONSTITUTION: Tungsten filament 5 is attached to the stem 3 in a tubular bulb 1, and suspension made of powder of Zr, Ta, Ti, Al or the like constituting bulk getters 7 and its binder is applied on lead wires 4a, 4b and anchor portion 6. Further, Ar gas containing about 5 wt % of H2 is sealed in the bulb 1 under the pressure of about 600 Torr. When current is supplied to this bulb 1, H2 molecules located near the tungsten filament 5 are dissociated into atoms since the filament 5 is heated to an extermely high temperature but are again changed into molecules while releasing heat at the portion of lead wires 4a, 4b and anchor portion 6. Thus, coatings of bulk getters 7 near the above portion are heated effectively to a high temperature and impure gases in the bulb 1 are adsorbed thereto so that it is prevented that the bulb be darkened in use
