Abstract
PURPOSE: To accomplish griding on the circumferential welded zone of steel pipes strictly to a specified size by preventing the grinder from cutting below the detected height of the level of two pipes butted together with a welded zone cut preventive mechanism.
CONSTITUTION: A grnding head 3 adapted to be driven on the circumference of a pipe 1 with a drive carrier 4 is weaved with a weaving means. In addition, the head is pushed against the pipe 1 under a proper pressure with a pressure cylinder and a ring, and under such a condition, a grinder 6 on the head grinds the welded zone of the pipe 1. In this process, a cut preventive mechanism 24 is provided to detect the height of the level of two pipes butted togher so that the grinder is checked from cutting below the detected height. This ensures that the grinder grinds the welded zone of the pipe strictly to a specified size.
