Abstract

CONSTITUTION: A truing wheel 13 is rotated by a pulley 14 and can be moved by a hydraulic cylinder 9 in parallel with a grinding shaft 5 and be moved back and forth by servomotor 19 and a feed screw 18 perpendicularly to the grinding shaft 5. The machined surface of the truing wheel 13 is made coincident with the peripheral surface of a grindstone 6 by a contact detection bar 25 extending on the same plane as the machined surface. After that, the cutting displacements of the truing wheel 13 are stored and integrated to measure the total wear of the grindstone 6. When the total wear has exceeded a limit, it is judged and indicated that the grindstone 6 has reached the limit of use. The limit of use is thus accurately detected.
