Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a heat resistant steel with enhanced toughness at the base metal and the weld bond zone, obtd. by adding specific amts. of C, Si, Mn, Cr and Mo to iron.
CONSTITUTION: The heat resistant steel consists of C; 0.04W0.15%, Si≤0.06%, Mn; 0.30W0.06%, Cr; 2.00W3.50%, Mo; 0.90W1.10%, and the balance practically iron. In the steel of this compsn. the Si content is lowered to prevent coarsening of the austenite grains, formation of island martensite at the weld bond zone is prevented to enhance the gouhness, and the ranges of Cr and Mo are balanced not to exert bad influence on the toughness and high temp. strength. Accordingly, with this compsn. the steel has superior toughness at the base metal, the heat-affected zone and the weld bond zone.
