Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain automobile parts having a vibration damping layer with improved vibration damping effect at elevated temperaturs, by hardening and bonding a composition comprising (a) a binder of polyvinyl butyral and diallyl phthalate monomer and (b) a filler to the parts under heating.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A binder prepared by mixing (a) a powdery polyvinyl butyral having preferably a polymerization degree of 100W1,000 and a softening point of 65W100°C with (b) a liquid diallyl phthalate monomer at a weight ratio of (a) to (b) of 1:0.5W2.5 under agitation into a paste is kneaded with (B) a filler, preferably inorganic fiber, etc. at a weight ratio of (A) to (B) of 1:2W4 and (C) a polymerization initiator to form a paste. The paste thus obtained is directly or as a molded article applied to or placed on automobile parts to a thickness 1W5 times that of the substrate, hardened and bonded at 120°C for 40min to 170° for 10min to form a vibration damping layer. The vibration damping layer shows its effect to the utmost limit at 60W120°C.
