Abstract
PURPOSE: To form a layer rendered hydrophilic and having superior anticloudiness, endurance, etc. on the surface of an inorg. substance substrate by binding a hydrophilic monomer to the substrate surface with a binder having primary and secondary functional groups which react with inorg. and org. substances, respectively.
CONSTITUTION: A compound having a hydroxyl group or the like as a primary functional group and a vinyl group or the like as a secondary functional group is used as a binder. The compound may be vinyltrichlorosilane or isopropyltrimethacryl titanate. A soln. of the binder is applied to the surface of inorg. substance substrate 1 of glass, ceramic, metal or the like to bind binder 2 to substrate 1 with the primary functional group, and excess unbound binder 2 is removed. A soln. of hydrophilic monomer or oligomer 3 such as maleic anhydride or acrylamide is then applied to graft monomer or oligomer 3 by reaction with the secondary functional group of binder 2.
