Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare 2-deoxy-D-glucose useful as a biochemical reagent, more economically that by the plant-extraction or synthesis, by the culturing of fungi belonging to Streptomyces genus.
CONSTITUTION: 2-Deoxy-D-glucose-producing fungi belonging to Streptomyces genus, e.g. Streptomyces xanthocidicus (FERM-P No.4135) are cultured in a nutrient medium, and after culturing, the objective compound is separated from the filtrate. The culturing is carried out at about 30°C for 50W100hr. The compound has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coil, etc., and also has antiviral activity.
